23 Apr 2019

China Unicom has opened its 5G test network in 40 cities, with the trial system covering the core areas of seven cities – namely Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Xiong’an – as well hotspots of 33 other cities. C114 cites the operator’s chairman, Wang Xiaochu, as saying that the company would cooperate on a national deployment and ‘join hands’ with all parties in the industrial chain, adhering to an open and cooperative mentality. The company also noted that its chosen coverage areas look to provide industrial partners with a broad experimental scenario for testing 5G services in order to promote 5G application incubation.
