Algar taps Nokia for XGS-PON upgrade

Brazilian regional operator Algar Telecom has reportedly enlisted Nokia to upgrade its fibre networks using the XGS-PON standard. The platform – which is capable of supporting download speeds of up to 10Gbps – will be used to serve the telco’s B2B users. According to local technology site TeleSintese, the XGS-PON deployment represents the first such rollout in South America.
