Colombia initiates 5G consultation

5 Apr 2019

Colombia’s National Spectrum Agency (Agencia Nacional de Espectro, ANE) has initiated a public consultation which will inform its planned 5G roadmap and help it to establish frequencies suitable for 5G use. The regulator notes that the bands under consideration for 5G are as follows:

· 614MHz-698MHz (‘600MHz’), which is currently used for TV services, but has been authorised for mobile use following the country’s analogue switchover, which will commence on 31 December 2019

· 698MHz-806MHz (‘700MHz’), which has already been earmarked for distribution to mobile operators

· 3.3GHz-3.8GHz (‘3.5GHz’)

· Various millimetre wave (mmWave) bands, starting with 24.25GHz-27.5GHz.

The regulator welcomes submissions from industry stakeholders until 22 April 2019.
