Orange Espana and Chinese vendor ZTE have completed a 5G voice call in Valencia using Stand Alone (SA) network architecture. The call leveraged a 5G New Radio (NR) base station, a core 5G network and test terminals, which are capable of supporting data speeds of up to 876Mbps. The cellco notes that it is currently carrying out 5G tests in Valencia, Seville, Malaga, Vigo, Santiago de Compostela, Barcelona and Bilbao.
Orange has previously disclosed that it expects to utilise a 40MHz block of 3.5GHz spectrum for its deployment of commercial 5G services in Spain. A four city launch (locations to be confirmed) has been earmarked to take place before the end of 2019.
