Moroccan cellco Inwi (Wana) and Chinese vendor Huawei are planning to embark on a series of pre-commercial 5G pilots in the coming weeks. The operator disclosed that it has modernised its core network with 5G virtualised platforms, with ongoing upgrades of its network architecture, including new equipment being installed on its relay antennas. Fadoua Laaroussi, Inwi’s Performance and Planning Manager, said: ‘5G is a reality today at Inwi. A reality that we have anticipated and prepared through the modernisation of our infrastructure and the continued growth of our network architecture. Inwi now has a modern and agile infrastructure, able to adapt to all current and future technological developments.’ Further, Ericsson’s Customer Unit Head Nora Wahbi highlighted that the Swedish manufacturer will continue to provide Inwi with 5G solutions.
