Orange and T-Mobile could be interested in Sferia’s 800MHz spectrum

2 Apr 2019

Polish cellcos Orange and T-Mobile are reportedly interested in acquiring additional 800MHz spectrum, which has been freed up following the failure of fixed-wireless operator Sferia to renew its concession; the licence includes 2×5MHz of frequencies. Both Orange and T-Mobile currently have access to 2×10MHz in the 800MHz band, while a third operator, Play, has a licence for 2×5MHz. Telko.in reports that while the two firms have expressed interest in the spare frequencies, there is no guarantee that they would move to buy the spectrum should it come up for sale, with the returned licence having been valued at around PLN1.7 billion (USD444 million).
