Algar Telecom, a full-service telecoms provider based in Uberlandia, in the state of Minas Gerais, has announced that it has agreed to acquire fellow regional operator Smart Telecomunicacoes (Smart Networks), in a deal valued at BRL49.8 million (USD12.9 million). Smart, which is based in Pernambuco, operates in the B2B segment. Algar has stated that the takeover is designed to boost its expansion plans in the North-east of Brazil.
