Weco Weco, Telsam ink deal with Djibouti govt to deliver data centre

26 Mar 2019

Agence Ecofin writes that Weco Weco, a company which specialises in renewable energies, and telecoms equipment firm Telsam have signed a joint memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Djibouti – represented by state-owned PTO Djibouti Telecom and power firm Electricite Djibouti (EDD) – for the construction of a data centre in the tiny African country. The new facility, which will augment the Djibouti Data Center (DDC, opened in 2013), is slated to be constructed in Bab El Mandeb, in the Obock region, and will support the nation’s status as a regional IT hub which is served by no fewer than eight fibre-optic submarine cable links (SMW3, EIG, FLAG Europe-Asian, EASSy, WIOCC, AAE1, SMW5 and DARE).
