Hungarian cableco DIGI has launched a commercial Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) network using its 3.6GHz-3.8GHz band spectrum to deliver fixed internet and telephony services bundled with satellite TV for residential customers, reports local ICT news site HWSW.hu. Subscribers to the ‘DIGI Kompakt’ tariff package receive an internet connection with speeds of up to 30Mbps/5Mbps (down/upload) plus 89 TV channels on a one-year contract costing HUF4,000 (USD14.20) per month, which also includes a telephony subscription (inclusive of on-net calls and off-net calls charged at HUF4/HUF6 per minute to fixed/mobile numbers). Installation includes an indoor modem and an external antenna with a maximum 20 metres of wiring to connect the user’s household. The service is not portable or useable outside the premises.
The initial coverage footprint for DIGI’s new FWA-based service reaches selected settlements in 27 districts, mainly in smaller towns and villages. DIGI received a 3600MHz-3800MHz TDD (1×20MHz) wireless (fixed or mobile usage) licence in June 2016 and the service is assumed to be using these frequencies.
