Life's what you make it: TalkTalk confirms York FTTP network now covers 33,000 premises

7 Mar 2019

British broadband provider TalkTalk has confirmed that its fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) infrastructure in the city of York now passes a total of 33,000 premises. With the operator having revealed the coverage level in a recent investor update, it noted that it expects the remaining 21,000 homes and businesses in the city will be blanketed by its fibre network somtime ‘this year’.

As noted in TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, in April 2014 TalkTalk agreed to partner with rival Sky and pure-fibre provider CityFibre to create a new company that would deliver ultrafast broadband services in York. While Sky subsequently divested its interest in the joint venture – though it remains a wholesale partner – in March 2017 TalkTalk revealed the initial fibre rollout in York had been completed, covering 14,000 premises, with just under 4,000 customers said to have signed up to a service over the network by that date.
