MTN Cyprus taps Huawei for 5G

MTN Cyprus – the mobile operator acquired by Monaco Telecom in September 2018 – has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Chinese vendor Huawei to assist with its preparations for 5G. The two companies will initially collaborate on a joint research programme, before progressing to a commercial launch. Thanos Chronopoulos, CEO of MTN Cyprus, stated: ‘MTN, in its new era, is faster, more flexible and more dynamic. This cooperation leads us to the advanced global 5G ecosystem and paves the path to Cyprus’s technological future.’

Monaco Telecom is a subsidiary of NJJ Holding, the European telecoms group established by French tycoon Xavier Niel. Telecoms businesses under the direct and indirect control of Niel and his assorted holding companies include Iliad (France/Italy), Salt (Switzerland/Liechtenstein), eir (Ireland), Monaco Telecom (Monaco) and MTN (Cyprus).
