Iliad secures EUR300m loan to boost fibre footprint

5 Mar 2019

French telecoms group Iliad has agreed a EUR300 million (USD340.3 million) loan with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to fund the expansion of its in-deployment fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network. Iliad currently serves one million fibre-based subscribers over its network, which comprises ten million ‘connectible sockets’ across 90 departments. Going forward, the telco seeks to have 20 million connectible fibre sockets in service by end-2022.

The new financing agreement – which brings Iliad’s total amount of EIB financing to EUR850 million since 2009 – was signed 25 metres underground, in an old nuclear bunker that has been transformed into a datacentre by Iliad.
