Spanish regional operator Euskaltel Group has hired the local arm of Chinese vendor ZTE to assist with its regional expansion plans. ZTE has been awarded a supply and management contract for the company’s planned fibre networks and will also deploy new optical line terminals (OLT) and optical network terminals (ONT), with a view to improving end-user experience.
The cableco – which currently serves the Basque Autonomous Community (via Euskaltel), Galicia (via R Cable) and Asturias (via Telecable) – aims to reach more than one million new homes this year and sign up 90,000 new users. In Leon and Cantabria the company will launch using its R brand, in Navarra and La Rioja it will use the Euskaltel brand, and in Catalonia the company will operate as RACCtel+ (a collaboration with insurance company RACC).
