Mauritania has begun work on four sections of fibre-optic cable that will complete the country’s national backbone network. Agence Ecofin reports that deployments are getting underway on the 531km section between Nouakchott, Atar and Choum, as well as the 723km Rosso-Boghe-Kaedi-Selibabi-Kiffa link, the 280km Aioun-Nema cable, and the local loop of Nouakchott. Work is being carried out under a USD12 million project funded by the World Bank, with equipment provided by ZTE.
