Vodafone Germany has enlisted US-based Casa Systems to deploy its DOCSIS 3.1 network solution, as it seeks to deliver improved transmission speeds across its entire cable footprint. The contract will leverage Casa Systems’ Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP), the vendor notes. By the end of 2021 the operator expects its cable networks to offer gigabit speeds to more than twelve million households.
TeleGeography notes that the push towards gigabit-capable fibre networks represents one of the three strands of the Vodafone’s EUR2 billion (USD2.3 billion) ‘Gigabit Investment Plan’, as unveiled in September 2017. Alongside the ‘Giga-Cable’ initiative, Vodafone is also working on the ‘Giga-Business’ and ‘Giga-Municipality’ projects, which will see it target businesses and rural customers, respectively.
