Speedcast to improve connectivity for outer Cook Islands

19 Feb 2019

Speedcast International has been contracted by Bluesky Cook Islands to replace the Islands’ existing international hub termination service with a new domestic hub for data, voice, domestic terrestrial television distribution and cellular backhaul. A press release says that the Newtec Dialog hub will significantly improve outer island residents’ capability to connect to the main island Rarotonga and onwards to the rest of the world, whilst also paving the way for expansion of 3G/4G cellular services. Rob McFadzien, CTO at Bluesky Cook Islands, said: ‘The solution offered by Speedcast and Newtec allows us to modernise our domestic satellite network and extend our existing MPLS service to the islands whilst providing excellent space segment efficiencies. With this upgraded network we are laying the foundation for deploying updated services to the islands.’
