Belgian cellcos offered lower spectrum fees for improving white spots coverage

1 Feb 2019

Belgium’s Telecom Minister Philippe De Backer will offer to reduce spectrum fees for mobile network operators (MNOs) if they improve their coverage in current grey and white spots, writes De Tijd. De Backer will present his plan to the cabinet today (1 February) and the telecoms minister hopes the proposal will encourage cellcos to invest in areas of the country that currently have insufficient mobile coverage. Operators would receive an 80% discount on the spectrum fees they pay and in return they would need to improve network coverage in the 23 remaining white or grey zones nationwide.
