Telefonica deployed 6,700 additional 4G base stations in Germany last year

28 Jan 2019

Telefonica Deutschland, which provides services under the O2 brand name, has revealed that it deployed an additional 6,700 LTE base stations throughout Germany last year. In rural areas, such as Havelland, Spreewald, Altmark, Freudenstadt and Sigmaringen, the expansion work enabled more than 5.5 million people to access 4G for the first time. In addition, Telefonica significantly increased the capacity of its existing LTE network and further improved the connection speed and sound quality of its VoLTE service. The expansion last year was carried out alongside the integration of the O2 and E-Plus networks, which has now been successfully completed.

This year, Telefonica Deutschland will continue to expand its 4G network, particularly in rural areas and along motorways and railway lines, while also carrying out capacity upgrades in cities.
