KPN shutting Telfort stores in May; online marketing continues for now

KPN of the Netherlands plans to shut all of its budget multi-play sub-brand Telfort’s retail stores on 1 May this year, although online Telfort marketing will continue for the time being, whilst a decision on when Telfort will cease selling services to new customers is yet to be finalised, reports Dutch-based Telecompaper quoting KPN spokesperson Ellen van Heerwaarden. Existing Telfort users can also get customer service at KPN stores whilst the Telfort telephone contact centre remains operating for now. Telfort – owned by KPN since 2005 – offers mobile (MVNO), broadband, fixed telephony and TV services.

The latest move stems from KPN’s announcement of 10 January to focus on the parent brand and phase out sub-brands Telfort (including Telfort Business), XS4ALL and Yes Telecom over two years whilst incorporating their unique selling points into the KPN multi-play range.

Ms van Heerwaarden clarified: ‘When we completely stop offering new Telfort products, it has not yet been finalised, but one thing is certain, we will eventually serve this customer segment from the KPN brand.’
