24 Jan 2019

Viettel Telecom, Vietnam’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, has received the country’s first licence to trial 5G mobile communication services from the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC). VietNamNet reports that the test permit is valid for one year until 21 January 2020 and allows the military-owned telecoms company to trial the technology in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Viettel is permitted to test 5G at up to 73 locations but the firm is not allowed to charge users testing its service. Along with the licence, Viettel has been granted access to spectrum in the 2575MHz-2615MHz, 3700MHz-3800MHz and 26.5GHz-27.5GHz frequency bands.
