Eutelsat’s Konnect Africa division has launched satellite-based internet access across Cote d’Ivoire. The company is providing home users with 5GB of bandwidth a month for XOF9,000 (USD15.63) or 30GB of data for XOF35,000. Business users are targeted with services providing between 50GB and 500GB of bandwidth, with monthly prices starting at XOF58,000. Peak speeds are 20Mbps downstream and 3Mbps upstream.
Jean-Claude Tshipama, CEO of Konnect Africa, said: ‘Satellite technology for high speed internet is the answer for efficient digital coverage in Cote d’Ivoire. Many ‘white zones’ remain and Konnect Africa’s complementary offer addresses this lack of connectivity.’
Konnect Africa was launched by Eutelsat in June 2017, initially offering coverage of Benin, Cameroon, Kenya, Lesotho, Nigeria, South Africa, Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland), Tanzania and Uganda. It has since been expanded to other African countries.
