Bolivian state-owned telco Entel has revealed that it plans to invest USD288 million in the expansion of its mobile and fibre-optic networks in 2019. The operator expects to deploy 700 new base transceiver stations (BTS) to bolster its mobile network – which currently comprises 7,751 cell sites.

In a parallel development, the telco notes that it has assisted the Ministry of Public Works, Services and Housing (Ministerio de Obras Publicas, Servicios y Vivienda) to complete the first phase of its National Programme of Telecommunications for Social Interest (Programa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones de Interes Social, PRONTIS) fibre rollout. As such, fibre-optic networks have now been interconnected in a total of 77 municipal capitals.
