Japanese telco KDDI (au) and Samsung Electronics of South Korea have carried out two new trials of 5G technology in the capital Tokyo, one involving the transmission of 4K ultra-high-definition (UHD) surveillance video on a train platform and the other testing 5G functionalities to deploy ultra-fast communications at an elementary school. According to a joint press release, the 4K UHD trial used a 28GHz band 5G base station to enhance passenger safety in tests conducted at the Haneda Airport International Terminal in Ota, Tokyo. RCRWireless News also reports that in the second demonstration, Samsung and KDDI used 5G to help students download content in class using UHD technology – again using the 28GHz band.
