Bouygues Telecom, in partnership with Ericsson and Qualcomm Technology, has conducted a 5G call in real conditions on the streets of Lyon. The setup used a Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G modem, which was connected to Bouygues Telecom’s 5G site in Lyon, composed of 5G Ericsson 6488 active radio antennas linked to the fibre-optic network core. All of the devices are compatible with the 3GPP R15 5G-NR NSA standard and operate in the 3.5GHz frequency band. Lyon is the second city in which Bouygues Telecom has deployed 5G in France, following the launch of a 5G pilot in Bordeaux in July 2018. The cellco has deployed eleven 5G sites in Bordeaux so far.
