Zain Saudi Arabia has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Saudi Telecom Company (STC) to extend fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband services to households across the Kingdom. Zain said in a press release that the MoU reinforces the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT’s) initiative of deploying fibre-optic services to 2.1 million households in urban areas by the end of 2020.

In related news, Saudi Arabia’s Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has approved a decision to expand the scope of the unified licences awarded to STC, Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) and Zain Saudi in 2016. The regulator said in a statement: ‘The decision will enable the three mobile operators to offer all services under a single licence, including mobile and fixed line services, IoT, artificial intelligence and digital application services.’
