Angola set to introduce fourth operator in Q1 2019

21 Dec 2018

Angola’s Secretary of State for Telecommunications, Manuel Homem, announced this week the department’s plans for 2019, including finalising the award of a fourth telecoms licence in the first quarter, writes Agence Ecofin. The process of licensing a fourth operator began in November 2017 and the result of the public call for tenders is set to be announced in February 2019. The anticipation is that the introduction of a new operator will stimulate competition in the telecoms sector and improve the overall quality of service. Among other objectives for 2019 is the realisation of broadband programmes enabling wider internet access in schools and public spaces, as well as a plan to privatise Angola Telecom.
