Ooredoo Qatar has confirmed that it connected 400,000 Qatari homes/premises to its direct fibre network by the end of November 2018, Gulf Times reports. Ooredoo Qatar CEO Waleed al-Sayed said: ‘We are delighted to announce such a phenomenal achievement in reaching 400,000 homes connected to our fibre network.’ Over 99% of Qatar’s households are covered by high speed fibre networks. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database says that two years ago Ooredoo Qatar passed the 300,000 fibre broadband subscriber milestone, reaching 305,000 fibre internet subscribers at end-December 2016 (whilst DSL users dwindled to less than 20,000), at which date its fibre network coverage passed 427,000 homes/premises. Since then, coverage has been expanded to more than 482,000 premises. A breakdown of services taken (broadband internet/voice line/IPTV) was not immediately available for the latest 400,000 subscribers announcement, whilst it was also unconfirmed if the figure included businesses.
