Pan-African telecoms group Liquid Telecom has been given a USD180 million cash boost from UK investment group CDC. Bloomberg reports that CDC has agreed to take a stake of almost 10% in Liquid, which is part of the Mauritius-based, Zimbabwe-owned Econet Global group. The funding will enable Liquid to expand its network to five new countries including Nigeria and Ethiopia. Liquid, which owns around 70,000km of fibre infrastructure across Africa, recently announced a USD400 million plan to develop its operations in Egypt.
