Ericsson has been selected by Millicom International Cellular (MIC) to modernise the RAN infrastructure belonging to Tigo Paraguay and Tigo Honduras. Under the multi-year deal, the vendor will implement its Ericsson Radio System portfolio into approximately 1,000 cell sites across the two markets.
Ericsson will also expand Tigo’s existing networks in the aforementioned markets, modernising the existing 2G, 3G and 4G sites, as it seeks to pave the way for the future delivery of 5G and IoT services. Further, the upgrade will enable full 4×4 MIMO capabilities, and see indoor coverage improved via the deployment of Ericsson’s Radio Dot System. Finally, micro radios will be used to boost hot-spot capacity in Paraguay.
