BSNL workers delay strike by a week

3 Dec 2018

Worker unions of state-owned provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have deferred plans to begin an indefinite strike for a week whilst representatives from the unions meet with Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan, the Economic Times reports. The unions are pushing for the government to assign BSNL 4G spectrum immediately – alongside changes to pension payment contributions, revision of wages and review of pensions of retirees from 1 January 2017 – and last week threatened to go on strike for an indefinite period starting on 3 December. After a meeting with the telecom secretary, though, the All Unions and Associations of BSNL (AUAB) agreed to delay the action by a week for the opportunity to have more in-depth discussions with the official.
