Italian Senate passes broadband amendment

29 Nov 2018

Italy’s Senate has approved an amendment to tax legislation which is designed to encourage the deployment of ultra-broadband infrastructure and which could lead the way to the integration of the network assets of Telecom Italia (TIM) and wholesale provider Open Fiber. The amendment had already been approved by the Senate Finance Committee earlier this week, CorCom writes. While outlining his amendment bill, Senator Emiliano Fenu of the Five Star Movement said: ‘A single network allows for significant savings in the definition of investment strategies in networks.’ He said the combination of the two telcos’ fixed networks would avoid duplication of resources.
