Phase two of Ghana’s ‘Mobile Money Interoperability Payment System’ was launched on 28 November, writes My Joy Online. The second phase involves the interconnection of Vodafone Ghana, MTN Ghana and AirtelTigo’s networks to E-zwich, Ghana’s chip-based switching and payment system, managed by the Ghana Interbank Payment System (GhIPSS). Ghana’s Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said that phase one of the project saw the interconnection of the operators’ mobile money platforms and the Ghana National Switch (gh-link system), which made it possible for mobile money customers to send and receive money across networks. The minister also stated that over 1.3 million transactions had been made during phase one of the project, worth GHS134 million (USD27.1 million).
