Openreach targets one million extra homes and premises with G.fast

26 Nov 2018

BT’s network arm Openreach has unveiled plans to deploy G.fast connectivity for another million homes and businesses over course of the next nine months. The Telegraph reports that the infrastructure unit will extend its G.fast network footprint to a further 81 locations, on top of the 250 where the technology has already been deployed. New areas earmarked for connectivity include Blackpool and parts of Manchester, London and Birmingham. Ultimately, the telco aims to cover 5.7 million UK homes and businesses with G.fast technology by the end of 2020.

Kim Mears, Managing Director for Strategic Infrastructure Development at Openreach, is quoted as saying: ‘As the digital revolution rushes forwards and the demand for data continues to grow, we need to [make] sure we stay ahead of the curve.’
