Dhivehi Raajjeyge Gulhun (Dhiraagu), the Maldives’ incumbent telecoms operator, has expanded its fibre-optic broadband network to Thulhaadhoo, one of the inhabited islands of Baa Atoll, and Holhudhoo of Noonu Atoll. The firm’s ‘Fibre Broadband’ packages offer maximum download speeds of 100Mbps, with coverage of more than 40 inhabited islands across the Maldives, including Male, Villingili, Hulhumale, Maafushi, Gan, Dharavandhoo, Himmafushi, Thulusdhoo, Dhiffushi, Guraidhoo, Fulidhoo, Keyodhoo, Thinadhoo, Dhangethi, Hangnameedho, Dhigurah, Maamigili, Ukulhas, Mathiveri, Thoddoo, Rasdhoo and Bodufolhudhoo.
In a separate development, local newspaper The Edition reports that Dhiraagu has demonstrated 5G technology at the company’s head office. CEO Ismail Rasheed was quoted as saying: ‘5G will increase speed. Without a delay, signals will be transmitted. Dhiraagu always looks at what the customer wants when introducing these services,’ adding that demonstrating 5G is a step forward in Dhiraagu’s role in the field of digital technology.
