O2 Czech Republic is launching a next generation 3.7GHz wireless internet broadband service to provide ultra-high speed coverage for residences living in areas not served by its fixed network. The telco says the new ‘5G internet at home’ offer will deliver connectivity at speeds of up to 100Mbps and will initially be made available to some 340,000 households currently lacking a fast connection. Martin Cejka, O2’s director of fixed line marketing, said that the new service is live in areas including Olomouc, Pardubice, Budweis and Kutna Hora, and ‘even outside major cities’. Going forward, O2 plans to roll out the 5G internet at home service to cover a quarter of Czech households that do not have 50Mbps available today. In addition to availability, the connection speed will be boosted over time to up to 250Mbps. To entice users, O2 is offering the 100Mbps plan for CZK449 (USD19.7) per month for the first six months, if they already use another O2 service.
