Mauritania postpones 4G licence sale to January

21 Nov 2018

Authorities in Mauritania have extended the tender to sell 4G licences, with the deadline for applications put back from 5 December to 9 January. As reported by CommsUpdate last month, the government is selling three 4G licences aimed at existing players, with a fourth concession being made available to a new entrant. While the 4G-only permits are expected to be picked up by the country’s three incumbent cellcos – Mauritel, Chinguitel and Mattel – the new licence covers 2G, 3G and 4G technologies in an effort to attract further competition to the market.
