GVH re-examines DIGI-Invitel merger; fines DIGI HUF90m

20 Nov 2018

The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) has issued DIGI Hungary with a fine of HUF90 million (USD320,000) and withdrawn its May 2018 decision which granted DIGI’s acquisition of rival Invitel, due to what the comptroller called misleading information regarding overlapping regional markets of DIGI, its associate i-TV Digital Telecommunication Co and Invitel. GVH has initiated a new procedure to re-evaluate the markets affected by the DIGI/Invitel merger whilst permitting DIGI to retain control of Invitel for the time being to guarantee service continuity.
