Mexico’s Federal Telecommunications Institute (Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones, IFT) has published the new fixed line interconnection rates which will come into force on 1 January 2019 and last until 31 December 2019. The watchdog has set a rate of MXN0.003360 (USD0.00016) per minute for fixed line users, although market leader Telmex – the country’s Agente Economico Preponderante (AEP, or preponderant economic agent) – is subject to a rate of MXN0.003151 per minute. Mobile networks terminating calls on fixed line networks, meanwhile, will be charged MXN0.112623 per minute under a ‘calling party pays’ arrangement. Telcel, the AEP in the mobile sector, will pay MXN0.028313 per minute to terminate mobile calls on fixed networks.
