Telefonica Colombia absorbs Metrotel, Telebucaramanga

14 Nov 2018

Telefonica Colombia (Movistar) has announced that it has absorbed its regional subsidiaries Metrotel in Barranquilla and Telebucaramanga in Bucaramanga. Metrotel accounts for around 283,000 customers, while Telebucaramanga presides over a user base of 328,000. Going forward, Telefonica – which has managed the two businesses since 2006 – has committed to upgrading the regional networks to support LTE-A and fibre-optic technology.

Fabian Hernandez, CEO of Telefonica Colombia, commented: ‘The incorporation of the subsidiaries is strategic for the company since it allows us to boost our presence in two markets that have been characterised not only by its accelerated growth in recent years, but also by the rapid adoption of technology.’
