Irish telecoms operator eir plans to invest around EUR150 million (USD169.9 million) in improving its mobile network and expanding 4G coverage in both urban and rural parts of the country, reports the Irish Times. The funds will be spent on installing LTE technology at all of its mobile sites and adding hundreds of new sites to its network over the next two years. The plan is part of an overall EUR1 billion investment programme that will run over the next five years and will also see eir expand fixed broadband speeds of up to 1Gbps over its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network to an additional 1.4 million homes and businesses across the country. Furthermore, eir plans to begin rolling out 5G technology in Irish cities from 2019.
