Viettel Global Investment, the international business of Vietnam’s Viettel Group, has reported revenue of VND4.4 trillion (USD187.9 million) for the third quarter of 2018, an increase of 5% from the year-ago period. Viet Nam News writes that the firm’s units in Burundi and Haiti achieved revenue growth of 14% and 26%, respectively. Profit for Q3 2018 increased by 8% year-on-year to VND1.3 trillion.
For the first nine months of 2018 turnover was down 5% year-on-year to VND12.4 trillion, of which the firm’s African operations contributed VND5.6 trillion, followed by Southeast Asia with VND4.5 trillion and South America with VND1.7 trillion. Viettel Global reported a loss of VND812 billion, compared to a profit of VND273 billion in the same period of 2017, mainly due to the recently-launched Myanmar unit Mytel, which has yet to break even.
Outside of its domestic market, Viettel operates in Cambodia, Laos, Timor-Leste, Haiti, Peru, Mozambique, Cameroon, Burundi, Tanzania and Myanmar.
