A consortium comprising China Telecom and two Filipino companies owned by Davao City businessman Dennis Uy – holding company Udenna Corp and Chelsea Logistics Holdings – is reportedly the only bidder to have satisfied the selection committee’s qualification process to become the Philippines’ New Major Player (NMP) or so-called ‘third telco’. Reuters writes that two rival bids were rejected for being ‘incomplete’, submitted by the Sear Telecommunications consortium of TierOne and LCS Group of Companies, and Philippine Telegraph & Telephone Corp (PT&T). Reuters notes that both firms intend to appeal the committee’s decision.
