Safaricom posts 7.4% rise in half-year revenue

Kenyan telecoms operator Safaricom has reported total revenue of KES122.8 billion (USD1.2 billion) for the six months ended 30 September 2018, an increase of 7.4% from KES114.4 billion in the year-ago period, as service revenue grew 7.7% year-on-year to KES118.2 billion. EBITDA increased by 14.5% from KES54.3 billion to KES62.1 billion for the six-month period, while net profit rose by 20.2% to KES31.5 billion. Safaricom invested KES17.0 billion in the first half of its financial year, with the funds spent on network expansion (4G coverage has now reached 53% of Kenyans) and the acceleration of broadband and fibre deployment.

Safaricom ended September 2018 with a total of 29.9 million customers (compared to 29.5 million twelve months earlier), of which 25.2 million were classed as ’30-day active’ (up 4.3% year-on-year).
