Ghanaian cellco Surfline Communications has been shut down this week by the debt management and tax compliance enforcement unit of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), reports Graphic Online. The move comes after Surfline failed to pay a tax default of GHS37.3 million (USD7.7 million) between 2015 and 2017, with the GRA shutting down the head office of the company this week.
Assistant Commissioner of Communications and Public Affiars at the GRA, Kwasi Bobia-Ansah stressed that the closing down of Surfline’s office was a last resort and came after repeated failure from the cellco to pay the debts it owed.
