Zimbabwe’s state-owned cellco NetOne is reportedly in discussions with Telkom South Africa over the possibility of Telkom becoming a NetOne shareholder. The government of Zimbabwe recently said it is hoping to fast track the privatisation of NetOne and its fixed line sister company TelOne, with plans to push through a deal within the next six months. Business Live quotes government official Edgar Nyoni as confirming that talks are taking place, although neither NetOne nor Telkom have commented on the speculation. NetOne is the second largest cellco in Zimbabwe by subscribers, behind Econet, but ahead of Telecel.
