Movistar extends 4G network to Imbabura region

Movistar Ecuador, the country’s second largest mobile network operator (MNO) by subscribers, has announced that it has extended its 4G LTE network to the northern region of Imbabura. The towns of Ibrarra, Atuntaqui and Otavalo have been added to the Telefonica-owned company’s 4G network, bringing the total number of cities covered by LTE technology to 17 nationwide. Movistar has stated that its goal is to reach 90% LTE coverage for its customers by 2020, investing around USD150 million per year in its 4G network.
