Vodafone Hungary demonstrated an online live video broadcast via a 5G trial network at the Internet Hungary conference this week, reports the Budapest Business Journal. Vodafone’s trial system is using the 3.5GHz frequency band – with the UK-backed operator being the only Hungarian cellco owning spectrum in the range. At the 5G demo Vodafone used a standalone test core network, independent of its existing 4G network, plus a 5G modem and base station fitted with a Massive MIMO antenna. The company highlighted that 5G will allow live broadcasting of HD-quality video not only for sports/entertainment events, etc, but also for critical real-time scenarios such as in ambulances – allowing diagnostics to take place on the journey to hospital, for instance.
