All operators in Uzbekistan are to be allowed direct access to international internet channels by 2020, under a Presidential initiative contained in the road map of the Strategy for Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan (2019-2021), UzDaily reported. Currently, national state-owned telco Uzbektelecom provides operators with access to international internet gateways, but the road map states that by 1 January 2020 a legal act will be implemented including measures to liberalise international access, with the expectation that this will lead to reductions in prices for local internet end users.
