Telkomsel, majority-owned by Indonesian fixed line operator Telkom Indonesia, has revealed plans to strengthen and improve its 4G LTE mobile network in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, as part of ongoing efforts to support regional tourism. Telkomsel’s Teni Ginaya explained that the cellco is intent on ensuring people visiting the area receive the best possible service: ‘Labuan Bajo is one out of ten tourist destinations that Telkomsel is targeting, as part of our collaboration with the Tourism Ministry as an official partner of the Wonderful Indonesia programme,’ she said. The other tourist destinations on its radar are: Toba Lake, North Sumatra; Morotai, Maluku; Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi; Mandalika, West Nusa Tenggara; Bromo, East Java, Borobudur Temple, Central Java; Tanjung Lesung, Banten; and Tanjung Kelayang, Belitung. Further, Ms Teni noted that Telkomsel has launched a new SIM card under the remit of the programme, called ‘simPATI Tourist Wonderful Indonesia’. The starter package has a ‘special design and offers certain services adjusted to the needs of foreign tourists’.
