Luxembourg cableco Eltrona has teamed up with US-based telecoms vendor ARRIS to launch an ultra-high-speed 1Gbps broadband service. The new network uses ARRIS’ R-PHY Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) technology in conjunction with DOCSIS 3.1, with the technology upgrade also meaning that Eltrona will be able to backhaul mobile data in preparation for 5G rollouts across the country. Commenting on the work carried out, ARRIS President of Network and Cloud, Dan Whalen said: ‘Eltrona and ARRIS have enjoyed a long-standing partnership providing the best cable broadband services to Luxembourg. Our latest deployment enables Eltrona to realise the benefits of DOCSIS 3.1 and DAA, while building on its leadership position with new gigabit services.’
Eltrona’s broadband and voice services were launched on 1 May 2012, and two-way capable networks are understood to pass at least 50,000 households. Eltrona’s operations are supported by a 700km fibre backbone.
